Ever wonder where did your friend took that awesome #POTD photo? We saw a lot of similar posting about these instagram-worthy location especially in Singapore. But Penang? Hmm, not much. Therefore i would like to share my own personal instagram-worthy moment in George please read this post my own.

Feel free to let me know. ya.

1. Tan Clan Jetty - Weld Quay, Georgetown 
Woke up early morning to go to this place. Tan Jetty in Weld Quay, less popular compared to Chew Jetty but definitely a spot to watch sunrise. 






2. Gim Chuan Hin - Lebuh Acheh, George Town
Once you finish jalan-jalan at the jetty enjoying sunrise, proceed and walk to Lebuh Acheh. Below photo taken near the parking lot (it is visible from the main road) 


 3. Lot next to Sushi Kitchen - Lebuh Acheh
From the jetty, passing by the green door (above photo) you will encounter with this one.


4. Moonlight Cafe - Lebuh Acheh, George Town
The lot is next to Moonlight Cafe. Features a beautiful red windows and bricks, a must to if your are into #minimalism

20. Pinang Peranakan Mansion - The Clan Temple 
Same place, different angle. This one you have to sit at one of the chair at the gallery (temple).

The ancestral temple which he built next to the mansion was formerly a Chinese school. Malaysia revises tourism tax to a flat rate of RM10 per night



KUALA LUMPUR: Foreigners staying at paid lodgings in Malaysia will be charged a flat rate of RM10 (US$2.30) per night as tourism tax while Malaysians will now be exempted from it completely, Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz said on Wednesday (Jul 26). 

The tax, which is meant to be implemented from Aug 1, was initially announced at a rate of between RM2 to RM20 per night depending on the type of accommodation.

Malaysians had been expected to pay the tax too if they stayed at places with a three star rating and above. 

"We will impose a RM10 flat rate from five-star to zero-star hotels for foreign tourists, and Malaysians will be exempted from the tax across all classifications of hotels,” he told Parliament, as quoted by The Star. 

Mr Nazri reportedly said it was now up to the Prime Minister to determine the date of implementation. 

He added that his ministry estimates a return of RM210,956,797 (USD$49,237,209) a year based on an average occupancy rate of 60 per cent of the 237, 391 rooms currently registered with the government. He expects this number to go up as more businesses register with the ministry.

The planned tourism tax has been controversial in Malaysia with East Malaysian states, in particular, fearing it would impact the number of tourists to Sabah and Sarawak.

Malaysia to start imposing tourism tax from August



KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will begin imposing its tourism tax from Aug 1 this year, starting from RM2.50 per room each night, according to details published on the Royal Malaysian Customs Department's website. 

The tax will be collected from all types of premises used as accommodation for tourists, except homestay and Kampung Stay registered under the ministry, premises managed by institutions (education), premises used for training purposes and religious institutions where such facilities are not used for commercial purposes. Premises with fewer than 10 rooms are also exempted, according to the website.

The registration of operators of these premises will start this July, the website said.

It added that the rates start from RM2.50 per room each night at a non-rated accommodation to RM20 per room each night at a five-star accommodation.

The rates are RM20 for a five-star accommodation, RM10 for four-star accommodation, RM5 for one to three star accommodation and RM2.50 for non-rated accommodations, including budget hotels.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz had said in April, when the Bill was passed, that revenue from the tourism tax would be in the region of RM654.62 million if the overall occupancy rate for the 11 million "room night" in the country can achieve 60 per cent.

The webpage with the details of the tourism tax was apparently taken down on Wednesday (Jun 7), after this report was published.

Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2017 - The Result

Kerinah Mah the Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2017 state level

The Kaamatan celebration for this year is already reaching its peak with Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan crowning moment with resulting Miss Kerinah Mah representing Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu beat the other 43 participants representing each district (except Banggi - disqualified). That being said the former Unduk Ngadau 2016, Sherry Anne Laujang passing the baton to continue the Huminodun legacy. The state-level pageant is held on the 31st of May annually at the Hongkod Koisaan building in Penampang, and is the highlight and ending point of the month-long Kaamatan celebrations.

Puntung, the Sumatran rhino, is dying

Puntung, the three legged Rhino is dying

KOTA KINABALU: All hope of saving Puntung – one of the remaining three Sumatran rhinos in Sabah – is gone after veterinarians confirmed that she is dying of squamous cell cancer. 

Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga said Puntung had earlier undergone dental surgery, which was believed could save her and her species. 

However, euthanasia is now being considered. 

“We thought that we had saved her from her life-threatening dental infection a few months ago. 

“But now, it turns out that that the swelling on Puntung’s left cheek that alerted us to the infected tooth root had a more serious origin,” he said when contacted. 

He said the swelling on Puntung’s cheek had progressed after her surgery and two subsequent biopsies revealed she has squamous cell carcinoma. 

Tuuga said the cancer has been spreading rapidly over the past few weeks and specialists from several countries agree that it would be fatal – with or without treatment. 

“As of today, Puntung can no longer breathe through her left nostril. She can no longer vocalise, she is in pain and her condition is declining fast. 

“Other than administering painkillers, there is nothing more anyone can do,” he said. 

Veterinarians and other specialists are now making preparations to perform Oocyte retrieval (the process of collecting mature eggs directly from a female’s ovaries, prior to their release from ovarian follicles) on Puntung. If the procedure is succesful, Puntung may be able to contribute to the survival of her species. 

Sabah’s Sumatran rhino population has dwindled to just three specimens in captivity, with the animal considered extinct in the wild.

April 24 declared public holiday to celebrate King's installation



PETALING JAYA: April 24 has been declared a public holiday to celebrate the installation of Sultan Muhammad V (pic) as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The installation ceremony will be held at the Balairung Seri of Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur in the morning on April 24, followed by a royal dinner at the Dewan Santapan of the palace.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said in a statement Monday that the public holiday was declared under the Public Holidays Act 1951 for Peninsula Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

For Sabah and Sarawak, the respective state governments have been told to ratify the holiday using their state laws.

Sultan Muhammad V of Kelantan was elected the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong at a special meeting of the Conference of Rulers last October to succeed Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

Bed Tax untuk penginap hotel di Terengganu


KUALA TERENGGANU – Kerajaan Negeri Terengganu bercadang mengenakan caj penginapan kepada pelancong yang menginap di hotel di negeri ini, sebagai langkah menampung peruntukan bagi pengurusan pelancongan serta mempertingkatkan ekonomi negeri. 

Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman berkata, pihaknya sedang menjalankan kajian mengenai perkara itu, sebelum pelaksanaan dilakukan sambil memberitahu, langkah tersebut bertujuan menjadikan pelancongan sebagai sektor utama dalam menjana pertumbuhan ekonomi di negeri ini. 

Mengulas cadangan itu katanya, Terengganu bukanlah negeri pertama ke arah menguatkuasakan caj tersebut memandangkan pelaksanaan caj yang sama telah pun dibuat di Melaka dan Pulau Pinang yang mengenakan caj warisan di negeri masing-masing ketika ini. 

“Kajian sedang dijalankan bagi mengenal pasti kaedah bersesuaian sebelum dikuatkuasakan kepada hotel-hotel di negeri Terengganu,” katanya ketika menjawab soalan lisan Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (Pas-Rhu Rendang) di Sidang Dun sempena Mesyuarat Pertama Penggal Kelima Dun Ketiga Belas, di Wisma Darul Iman, di sini, hari ini. 

Ahmad Razif berkata, kajian tersebut akan dilakukan Jabatan Pelancongan Terengganu dan pihak berkuasa tempatan dengan mengambil contoh negeri-negeri yang melaksanakan caj tersebut, sebelum pelaksanaan secara menyeluruh dibuat. 

Mengulas lanjut, Ahmad Razif juga menjelaskan caj dikenakan hanyalah sekitar RM1 sehingga RM2 ke atas setiap malam bagi setiap bilik, di samping caj turut bergantung pada taraf hotel terbabit.

Sehubungan itu beliau yakin, dengan kemampuan perbelanjaan pelancong yang berkunjung ke negeri ini, caj dikenakan tidak membebankan. 

“Mereka yang melancong memang berkeupayaan dan mempunyai duit yang lebih dan apa salahnya, cuma dalam kadar hanya RM1 hingga RM2 sahaja. Selepas ini jika ada program luar negara daripada agensi pelancongan kita, duit ini akan kembali semula kepada mereka,” katanya. 

Dalam perkembangan sama katanya, pelaksanaan caj tersebut juga membantu mengurangkan beban kerajaan berbelanja, khusus bagi pengurusan pelancongan. 

Jelasnya, kerajaan negeri mahu melihat komitmen daripada pihak hotel dalam membantu kerajaan negeri memandangkan pihaknya sebelum ini telah pun memperuntukkan perbelanjaan bagi mempromosi hotel, sekali gus memberi keuntungan kepada pengusaha hotel di negeri ini. 

“Jadi tidak salah untuk mereka pula memberi sumbangan kepada kerajaan negeri dalam keadaan kewangan negeri sekarang ini. Di sini wujudnya situasi menang-menang,” katanya.

Jet Pejuang Korea - Black Eagles 'Gegar' Ibu Kota Harini



KUALA LUMPUR: Sembilan pesawat pejuang jenis KAI-TB50 milik Tentera Udara Republik Korea akan 'menggegarkan' ruang udara Kuala Lumpur pada Rabu. 

Pesawat pasukan aerobatik Black Eagles dari republik itu mendapat perhatian ramai ketika pertunjukan udara sempena Pameran Antarabangsa Maritim dan Udara Langkawi 2017 (LIMA'17) yang melabuhkan tirainya Sabtu lepas.

Menurut kenyataan Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) hari ini, pasukan Black Eagles akan melakukan terbang lintas selama 15 minit di ruang udara ibu negara. 

"Terbang lintas itu bermula pada 10.30 pagi dan dijangka berakhir sekitar 10.45 pagi. Pasukan terbabit akan turut melintasi Menara Berkembar Petronas di ibu kota," tambah kenyataan tersebut. 

Menurut kenyataan itu lagi, orang ramai dinasihatkan agar tidak cemas dan tidak membuat sebarang spekulasi berhubung situasi berkenaan. 

"Dengan terbang lintas ini, orang ramai berpeluang menyaksikan kumpulan pesawat aerobatik Black Eagles yang telah membuat pertunjukan udara di LIMA'17 baru-baru ini," kata kenyataan itu. 

Black Eagles yang pertama kali tampil di LIMA adalah antara pasukan aerobatik yang mencuri tumpuan ketika pertunjukan udara LIMA'17 pada 20 hingga 25 Mac lalu, selain Russian Knights dari Tentera Udara Rusia (RAF) dan Jupiter dari Angkatan Udara Tentera Nasional Indonesia (TNI-AU)

Thai Smiles Airways Flies Direct to Kota Kinabalu, Economy Boost



Thai Smile will on March 26 start operating regular flights to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state, the fourth ASEAN destination to be flown by THAI Smile. The flight from Bangkok (BKK) to Kota Kinabalu (BKI) will take 3 hours 20 minutes. Thai Smile Airways operate from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and with the launched of BKK – BKI route, Kota Kinabalu citizens can travel to Bangkok without transit at Kuala Lumpur. A return ticket for Kota Kinabalu – Bangkok cost around 800+

On 1 March 2017, Thai Smile flight WE421 departs from Suvarnabhumi for Kota Kinabalu at 1.40 pm, arrives in Kota Kinabalu at 5.20 pm before leaving Kota Kinabalu for Suvarnabhumi at 6.30 pm and touching down in Suvarnabhumi at 8.20 pm Tourism is a major driver for Kota Kinabalu's economy. With more direct flights coming into the capital city from the likes of Thailand, China, Korea and more, it will boost the State's economy as well as the leisure properties here in Sabah.

FRIM’s Canopy Walkway to be closed in June

THE Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Canopy Walkway will be closed effective June 30.
The canopy was the main ecotourism attraction at FRIM for the past 25 years.
FRIM plans to build a new Canopy Walkway within three to five years, and double the length compared to the current trail.
It is working towards obtaining an allocation of RM3.5mil to build the new walkway made of aluminium. The proposed walkway will be safer and have less negative impact on the trees and the environment.
“The current trail was closed and reopened several times, for maintenance and security assessment, due to storms in 2015,” said FRIM director-general Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod at the launch of the International Day of Forests 2017.
“The trees around the trail to the Canopy Walkway have become unhealthy and require a longer time for regeneration or recovery.
“We plan to build a new Canopy Walkway in a few years. Any development on this issue will be announced from time to time,” he said.
International Day of Forests is celebrated on March 21 and this year’s theme is “Forests and Energy” at the international level.
The theme highlights the importance of energy in improving people’s lives, generating sustainable development and reducing the impact of climate change.
“FRIM chose ‘Energise with Love’ as its theme for International Day of Forests 2017, which defines energy not as fuel but something every human being expresses and embraces in terms of love,” Abd Latif added.
“The celebration is to promote commemorative tree planting for healing, for commemoration of a life event, for greening and cooling the earth, providing food for the animals, and also as a noble act or an expression of love.”
The celebration also provided an opportunity for families to gather and enjoy being in nature and to be more involved in greening and sustainability efforts within the community.
